Narrative
OhMCMV-1 (C1) is a maize synthetic population derived from tropical and corn belt inbred lines with high levels of resistance to maize chlorotic mottle virus (MCMV), sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV), and maize lethal necrosis (MLN). The population has undergone one complete cycle of S1 recurrent selection for MCMV resistance. Evaluation of 75 S1 lines derived from OhMCMV-1 (C1) indicated the population contains elite resistance to MCMV, SCMV, and MLN. Several of the S1 lines were completely asymptomatic after virus inoculation in replicated growth chamber experiments.

Description:
OhMCMV-1 (C1) is a synthetic maize population with elite resistance to MCMV, SCMV, and MLN. OhMCMV-1 was derived from five inbred lines: N211, KS23-5, KS23-6, Oh1VI, and DR and one complete cycle of S1 recurrent selection was performed. Three hundred cycle-0 S1 lines were evaluated for resistance to MCMV and 25 of the most resistant lines were intermated. A balanced composite population was developed from the intermated ears and random mated to form the OhMCMV-1 (C1) synthetic population.
