Narrative
SB-DT3 (Reg. No. GP-____, ____) is a red bean germplasm developed through shuttle breeding between Nebraska and Puerto Rico with broad temperate and tropical adaptation. SB-DT3 germplasm was developed through combining drought tolerance from the common bean Mesoamerican and Durango races and within the Mesoamerican race. In addition to drought stress tolerance, SB-DT3 showed resistance to endemic strains of the rust pathogen at Fort Collins, CO caused by Uromyces appendiculatus. Under drought stress, SB-DT3 flowered at 46 d, and matured 88 d after planting, and is adapted to both temperate and tropical production environments. This germplasm was developed cooperatively by the University of Nebraska and the USDA-ARS.

Description:
SB-DT3 (tested as SB-761) was developed from the cross ‘Merlot’//05F-5055-1/98020-3-1-6-2. 'Merlot’ is a small red cultivar with rust and Bean common mosaic virus resistance, and with good canning and seed quality. 05F-5055-1 is a black breeding line selected for high temperature tolerance and common bacterial blight resistance from the cross ‘Negro Tacana’/VAX 6. Negro Tacana was developed in Mexico and VAX 6 was developed at CIAT and has resistance to common bacterial blight.
