Comment: More than 100+ shrubs plus many suckers noted in two separate acidic wet meadows separated by a distance of approximately 475 yards. Due to the clonal suckering nature of this species it is difficult to quantify the number of genotypes. Population healthy (D. Boone, pers. communication, 23 November 2020). Coordinates refer to one of the acidic wet meadows. Coordinates for the other may be provided upon request.

Narrative
Aronia arbutifolia is listed as endangered in Ohio by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (2018-2019 Status List). This population was discovered in 2003 by Daniel Boone and later confirmed as an indigenous by the Division of Natural Areas & Preserves (Ohio). This accession represents genetics from the northwestern edge of the species native range and the first collection of the species in Ohio (Gardner et al. 2005). Fruits at collection site (southern Ohio) initiate color in early October and peak (red) around the last week in October. Growth habit is generally a single or very few stems from base reaching approximately 8-10' in height. Leaves whitish underneath.
