Environment description: Base of steep slope in mixed coniferous/deciduous forest. Rocky clay soil. Slope: 10 degrees. Aspect: Northeast.

Associated species: Actinidia chinensis; Alnus sp.; Cryptomeria japonica; Holboellia sp.; Hydrangea strigosa; Kalopanax septemlobus; Liriodendron chinense
Comment: Description: Two-trunk tree with spreading irregular habit. Height 6 to 8 m, spread 3 to 4 m, with trunk DBH measurements of 20 cm and 25 cm, respectively. Bark green/glaucous striated, turning corky brown. Leaves green, lustrous, no lobes, with ca 8 pairs of veins, coarsely serrate at margin. Samaras in pendent racemes changing from green to pink-red. Seeds and four herbarium specimens collected from one plant. Photographed.
