Environment description: North-south ridge in mesic forest dominated by Tsuga diversifolia and Betula ermanii, a bit farther up from collections 023 and 024. Soil is dark, organic.

Comment: Small, muli-stemmed (3) tree growing out of the base of a Tsuga diversifolia. Height 7 m; DBH 14 cm. Bark gray, flaking in large pieces to reveal light orange. Leaves ovate, to 5 cm, slightly serrulate, borne on 1.5 cm petioles. Flowers unknown, but the red form or variety (palibinii) is common in this area. Fruits green, ovoid to 5 mm in length, styles persistent, borne on curved stalks; more than 10 fruits per infructescence.
