Environment description: Hillside at edge of road, above forested valley and adjacent recent washout. Growing in rubble and rock, little to no A or O soil horizon.

Aspect:
Comment: Large tree with four stems arising from a stump; probably coppiced. Height 12 m, DBH 15 cm. Bark smooth, gray, patchy. Leaves cordate, up to 13 cm long and 11 cm wide with oblique base and acuminate apex; margins serrate. Fruits hard, up to 1 cm in length with five ridges. Bract up to 7 cm long, borne on a stalk up to 1.5 cm.
