Locality: Pingwu County; Si Er; Si Er Cun. Top of north-to-south-running ridge above the Si Er River.

Environment description: Top of ridge, densely covered by rhododendron and bamboo. Lots of organic matter over friable soil.
Associated species: Helwingia chinensis; Litsea sp.; Larix mastersiana; Pterocarya macroptera; undetermined bamboo (Poaceae); Rhododendron spp.; Ilex sp.
Aspect:
Comment: Multistemmed tree, cut in the past; height 8 m, basal diameter 45 cm. Bark smooth, gray, covered with lichen. Leaves green, ovate, with acuminate apex and petioles up to 3 cm long. Fruit ovoid, 0.75 to 1 cm around, yellow turning red, wiht slight pubescence; borne on pedicels up to 2 cm long. Seed collected from two plants. Five herbarium specimens collected; photographed. Giant panda common in the area. Monkey calls nearby as we made the collection.
