Narrative
One objective of the Iowa State University soybean breeding program is to develop germplasm lines with new genetic resources for pathogen resistance. Germplasm line AR19SBR (Experimental line AR15-259039) of MG II (Reg. No. ________, PI __________) derived from a cross of an Asian soybean rust resistant accession PI 567104B and IAR2001 BSR. IAR2001 BSR is a high-yielding cultivar resistant to BSR that has two BSR resistance genes (Rbs1 and Rbs3) inherited from PI 84946-2. AR19SBR germplasm line is a F 7:8 bulk of 60 agronomically uniform plants from the mentioned cross. Phenotyping in field and growth chamber assays showed that AR19SBR was highly resistant to SBR. Growth chamber assays confirmed that AR19SBR was also highly resistant to BSR. The molecular marker analysis indicated confirmed that AR19SBR inherited the new SBR resistance gene identified from PI 567104B, and it also inherited the BSR resistance genes (Rbs1 and Rbs3) from IAR2001 BSR. AR19SBR yielded 70 % compared to the respective high-yielding maturity checks in the field trials. AR19SBR may be used in breeding programs as donor of the new SBR resistance gene and also BSR resistance genes, for the northern US regions in which SBR and BSR resistance is of economic importance. The line could also serve as genetic stock in soybean research.

AR19SBR is an F7:8 germplasm line identified from a group of 253 RIL population (designated as AX20871) from the cross of IAR2001 BSR × PI 567104B made in Puerto Rico in 2006. IAR2001 BSR (Cianzio et al., 2007; ISURF Docket # 03542) belongs to MG II. IAR2001 BSR, is a high-yielding cultivar possessing the Rbs1 and Rbs3 genes that confer resistance to the BSR pathogen. PI 567104B is a MG IX soybean accession from Indonesia identified as highly resistant line to Asian soybean rust (SBR).
