Narrative
Sugarcane cultivar CP 10-2195 represents a variety with superior performance on sand soils. Its higher stalk weight results in high biomass yields over several crop cycles. This high tonnage, combined with acceptable sucrose content, results in significant improvement in profitability. This variety tests positive for the Bru1 locus, which confers resistance to brown rust (Puccinia melanocephala H. & P. Sydow). In addition, CP 10-2195 is resistant to leaf scald (caused by Xanthomonas albilineans Ashby, Dowson), ratoon stunt (caused by Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli Davis), Sugarcane mosaic virus strain E (mosaic), smut (Sporisorium scitamineum (Syd.) Piepenbring et al.), and Sugarcane yellow leaf virus, and is moderately resistant to orange rust (Puccinia kuehnii E.J. Butler). CP 10-2195 also has moderate freeze tolerance. This variety is recommended for mineral (sand) soils in Florida.

Description:
The female parent of CP 10-2195 is CP 01-2390, a highly successful breeding line (though not itself released commercially). One of the maternal great-grandparents is CP 72-2086, which was a major cultivar in Florida, and is still grown extensively in Central America. Since the cross was a poly-cross (multiple potential pollen donors), the identity of the male parent is difficult to determine.
