Narrative
HA 487 is an imidazolinone tolerant, Sclerotinia head rot resistant, high oleic F8-derived F10 maintainer oilseed sunflower line. Fatty acid composition of the 2017 breeder’s seed increase was 27±1 g kg-1 palmitic, 33±2 g kg-1 stearic, 857±3 g kg-1 oleic, and 72±2 g kg-1 linoleic acid, and the plant height of the finished inbred germplasm in Chile, 2017, was 124 cm. All testcrosses with HA 487 as female had yield similar to four out of five commercial checks, and oil content similar to three of them. Hybrids with HA 487 also had lodging and height similar to the best check cultivars for those traits. Testcross hybrids reached 50% bloom 65 days after planting and matures 105 days after planting. HA 487 contributes resistance to Sclerotinia head rot to hybrids.
