Environment description: Moist valleys, ridges and steep slopes (45-90 degrees) with north-facing aspect.

Associated species: Quercus muehlenbergii, Amelanchier arborea, Carya texana, Juniperus virginiana, Fraxinus americana, Quercus stellata, Ulmus crassifolia, Staphylea trifolia, Morus rubra, Cercis canadensis, Robinia pseudoacacia (flowering), Philadelphus pubescens, Tradescantia sp. (flowering), Phlox pilosa var. ozarkana (flowering), Platanus occidentalis, Sassafras albidum, Vitis sp., Smilax sp., Cornus drummondii and Podophyllum peltatum

Comment: Estimated population of 300-450 specimens across a 0.6 mile linear stretch. Specimens noted at time of sampling (29 April 2019) were close to or at peak flowering. Specimens noted averaged 4” d.b.h. with the largest specimen estimated at 8” d.b.h. and 50’ in height. Coordinates provided refer to specimen #S001. Coordinates for all other specimens may be provided upon request. Area originally sampled in 1994 by Shawn Belt accessioned as NA 65096.
