Locality: Cochise county. Portal. Chiricahua Mountains. Coronado National Forest. From Lordsburg, NM and W to Road Forks and S on 80 to Portal Road and W into AZ about 10.5 miles. Becomes Cave Creek road = FR42. About 3.5 miles SW of Portal to Sunny Flat Campground. Roads from E are all paved, while access by FR42 over Chiricahua Mountains is mountain gravel. Along FR42 especially around bridge over S Fork Cave Creek which is just S of Sunny Flat Campground. Also along Cave Creek for about 1/3 mile on Cave Creek Nature Trail running NE from Sunny Flat Campground.

Narrative
Three small tuberlings with unusual purple stems in creek bank. Over 30 small plants without flowers or fruit, but mature tubers near trailhead. Many very large green plants, one flowering, a few fruit, and many mature tubers at FR42 bridge and nearby. Collected 50 tubers.
