Narrative

In an evaluation of 368 Eragrostis tef accessions in 2010, ten accessions had red heads within the accession. These had mixed combinations of colors and head types, and selections were made from two accessions that had red appressed heads. The selection from PI 494204 was designated as VB.ET3. Seeds of VB.ET3 were planted in 2011 and a single plant was again selected and designated as VB.ET3.2011.1. 200 plants were grown from VB.ET3.2011.1 in the greenhouse 2015-2016. The harvested seeds were bulked and designated as Crimson Torch Tef germplasm.
