Comment: MS 1190 is a hexaploid edible ornamental rabbiteye blueberry (V. virgatum Aiton 2n=6x=72) generated in 2003 from a cross between T 366 and ‘Brightwell’. MS 1190 is an attractive edible ornamental rabbiteye blueberry with notable fall coloring in leaves, numerous unique pale pink blooms that arise on long reproductive shoots, and attractive berry color. The plant of MS 1190 is vigorous and generates numerous canes making a dense canopy with suitability for use as a hedge. MS 1190 plant produces attractive and flavorful blue berries possessing other desirable fruit quality attributes. Although berries are generally smaller, other fruit qualities are comparable to ‘Brightwell’ and ‘Alapaha’. MS 1190 is characterized by an extended fruit ripening period making it desirable for home gardeners and the nursery industry. Because of the self-incompatibility problem, it is recommended to be planted with other rabbiteye blueberry cultivars with similar bloom period to allow cross pollination and good fruit set.
