Narrative
Mature stalks in CP 09-1822 were longer and thicker than CL 88-4730. Internodes of both cultivars were similar in shape and waxiness in both cultivars but the size (length and diameter) of internode, growth ring, root band and root primordial were numerically greater in CP 09-1822 than CL 88-4730. Buds were yellow with slightly different tinge in both cultivars but the bud shape in CP 09-1822 (round with crawfish type wing) was different than CL 88-4730 (narrow ovate with wing broadening towards apex). Bud size (length and width) was numerically greater in CP 09-1822 than CL 88-4730. Leaves were similar in shape (squarish deltoid) and midrib color with CP 09-1822 having relatively greater leaf length in CP 09-1822 than CL 88-4730. There was only one auricle present in either of these cultivars with similar color and shape. Ligule shape was crescent with lozenge in CP 09-1822 and broad crescent in CL 88-4730 with slightly different shades of green-yellow color. Leaf sheath hairs were moderate along the mid line in CP 09-1822 and glabrous in CL 88-4730. CP 09-1822 is considered resistant to brown rust, orange rust, Sugarcane mosaic virus strain E, and Sugarcane yellow leaf virus.

Pedigree
Description:
CP 09-1822 is a product of cross between CP 01-2459 (female) and CPCL 02-8021 (male). The pedigree of CP 09-1822 is shown in Fig.1. Both parents were promising clones in the advanced stages of CP cultivar development program but none of them was commercially released because of some disease issues. One of the grand parents of CP 09-1822 is CP 96-1252 (Edmé et al. 2005) which is currently occupying the highest sugarcane acreage on both muck and sand soils in Florida.
