Narrative
The multiple generations of intermating and seed increase produced the germplasms which are adapted to their respective ecoregion and plant hardiness zone. Plants of DEIL-332-HZ4, and DEIL-332- HZ5 are morphologically similar to those found in native prairies in their respective ecoregions and Plant Hardiness Zones in the Midwest states of the USA. The germplasms differ in maturity with the germplasms based on southern collections typically flowering later in the summer. There is also variation within each of the germplasms for maturity, plant height and other traits. Plant breeders can use these germplasms as base populations for cultivar development or companies producing seed of native plants can use them as a seed source of known adaptation.
