Narrative
These germplasm populations which were produced by one generation of intermating are adapted to their respective ecoregion and plant hardiness zone based on the collections that were used in their development. White prairie clover germplasms are morphologically similar to those found in native prairies in their respective ecoregions and Plant Hardiness Zones in the Midwest states of the USA. The germplasms differ in maturity with the germplasms based on southern collections typically flowering later in the summer. There is also variation within each of the germplasms for maturity, plant height and other traits. Plant breeders can use these germplasms as base populations for cultivar development or companies producing seed of native plants can use them as a seed source of known adaptation. White prairie clover can be used in mixtures for planting grasslands for grazing or forage, native prairie restoration, and roadside, rest area, and park beautification.

Description:
DACA-251-HZ4a was developed from seed collected from tallgrass prairie sites in the South Dakota (2) and Minnesota (3) in the northern half of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5. DACA-251-HZ4b was developed from seed collected from tallgrass prairie sites in Iowa (7), Minnesota (4), Nebraska (1), and South Dakota (1) in the southern half of the 1990 USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 4. The collections for each germplasm were intermated in isolation for 1 generation.
