Associated species: Eupatorium perfoliatum, Solidago spp., Acer rubrum, Liriodendron tulipifera, Platanus occidentalis, Pinus strobus, Betula nigra, Fagus grandifolia, Lonicera japonica, Impatiens sp., Oxydendrum arboreum, Gillenia stipulata, Oenothera gaura, Rosa multiflora, and Rubus sp. Noted Hypericum prolificum nearby.

Comment: S. tomentosa fruit capsules were turning brown and starting to open at time of collection (10/21/2017). Population estimated at 50 specimens with approximately half in fruit. Soils at collection site seem to be derived from shale and might have some limestone (lower Pennsylvanian). Plants sampled generally 1 m apart. The greatest distance between two plants sampled was approximately 50 m (parallel to road).
