Environment description: Variable topography with some areas rather steep.

Associated species: Growing in association with Cornus florida, Solidago spp., Polystichum acrostichoides, Quercus spp., Lonicera japonica, Verbesina alternifolia, Rubus spp., Smilax rotundifolia, Acer rubrum, Hypericum hypericoides, Rhus copallinum, Eupatorium rotundifolium, and Spiranthes sp.
Aspect: Southwest
Comment: S. tomentosa generally restricted to pipeline area on dry hillside with variable slope (5-30 degrees). Fruits brown and starting to open at time of collection (10/01/2017). Population estimated at 30-50 specimens. Sampling occurred across a 500 meter segment.
