Environment description: Plants growing along the embankments of the clear creek just above normal flood stage in primarily deciduous woodlands with some broadleaved evergreens and conifers. Plants are growing in part shade; some direct sunlight occurs during mid-day hours for 1-2 hours. Soils sandy and topped with a generous undisturbed decomposed litter layer. Slope: 10 percent. Aspect: variable.

Comment: Plants are multi-stemmed, deciduous spreading shrubs or small trees that are modestly suckering, typically with 2 to 5 stems. Mature plants range in size from 3 to 8 meters tall and become spreading with age. Developing fruit are green and two-winged to 7.5 cm long. Abundance: Frequent. Plants are found frequently along the creek. In addition to the listed associated taxa, growing in association with numerous sedges (Cyperaceae).
