Narrative
The nuclear male sterile mutant, ms8, was isolated from an EMS-induced mutant population in BTx623. The ms8 mutant was subsequently back crossed to non-mutated BTx623 for six generations. After six back crosses, the homozygous ms8 mutant was pollinated with a heterozygous ms8 (ms8/MS8) plant. Thus, the seeds consist of 50% homozygous ms8 male sterile and 50% fertile heterozygous progenies. The ms8 seeds can be propagated by pollination the homozygous sterile progenies with the heterozygous fertile progenies.
