Environment description: Shrubland on steep slope/road cut below sparse mixed forest dominated by spruce/fir; appears to be seasonally wet judging by presence of sphagnum moss. Growing in open light.

Comment: DESCRIPTION: Habit: broad-leaved evergreen shrub. Height: 4-6 ft.; spread: 4-6 ft. Bark: pale gray to light brown with vertical striations, some exfoliation. Leaves: medium olive-green to dark green, paler on abaxial side. Flowers: none, but prolifically laden with flower buds for 2017.
