25 June 2013.
Essex County, Massachusetts, United States
Locality: Gloucester, village of Magnolia: Ravenswood Park; on trail that dissects the swamp.
Habitat: Wild Habitat
Environment description: Kettle hole swamp, red maple dominant. Muck soil.
Number of plants sampled: 1
Associated species: Acer rubrum
Land Owner Remarks: Trustees Of Reservations
Comment: Tree. No number on tree, on trail, smaller of pair. [see 393-14*B, NA 83687, for what is presumed to have been the larger tree of the pair.]. Probably the rarest tree in New England, this is the only known wild population. Population in severe decline due to nibbling and antler rubbing by deer. Deer fence erected and seems to be reversing this trend.
