Environment description: In thicket with ferns and Ardisia japonica on steep slope in rich well-drained soil.
Comment: DESCRIPTION: Colonial perennial herb ca. 50 cm tall, with short-creeping rhizome, stem purple at the base; leaves dull light green above, lustrous beneath; involucre sometimes deciduous, fruit blue-green with glaucous bloom, 9 mm long, 10 mm diameter.
