Environment description: Dug from the wild on Jindo ["Chindo"] 30 years ago and planted at present site.

Comment: Single-trunked broadleaved evergreen shrub ca 4 m tall, broadly conical; bark grayish, warty. Leaves glossy medium to dark green above, yellowish-green, lustrous beneath; petioles green. Peduncles purplish becoming red; fruits turning cranberry red, 8.5 mm long, 5.5 mm across; calyx lobes reddish-black. Very showy form with dense, heavy, showy infructescences.

Comment: Open-pollinated seed of NA 56506 ('Chindo'), growing at the U.S. National Arboretum; NA 56506 was collected in Korea in 1985. The only other plants of this taxon in the collection at the time were of cultivated origin.
