Narrative
The mean stalk height (ground level to top visible dewlap, dewlaps form the hinge of the blade joint in sugarcane) of 10 CP 08-1110 stalks was 227 cm. The mean internode length of 10 CP 08-1110 stalks at the fifth internode from the ground was 15.0 cm. Stalk diameter was measured at the middle of the second (32.2 mm), fifth (30.3 mm), and tenth (27.2 mm) internodes from the ground as well as at the middle of the hardened internode closest to the top visible dewlap (27.1 mm). CP 08-1110 exhibited a cylindrical shaped internode and a growth ring with a mean width of 3.4 mm at the fifth internode from the ground. The root band of CP 08-1110 was 8.8 mm wide. Bud furrows were absent. The buds of CP 08-1110 were yellow (5Y7/8). Buds of CP 08-1110 were not raised above the surface of the root band and had shapes described as narrow ovate bud with wing boarding towards apex at the fifth internode from the ground. The bud length and width means of the fifth bud from the bottom from five stalks of CP 08-1110 were 6.8 and 6.1 mm, respectively. Leaf sheath pubescence was light and located lower portion for CP 08-1110. The buds of CP 08-1110 had light-moderate pubescence with hair at the apex. CP 08-1110 is resistant to smut (caused by Ustilago scitaminea (Sydow and P. Sydow), moderately resistant to leaf scald (caused by Xanthomonas albilineans Ashby, Dowson), and ratoon stunt (caused by Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli Evtsuhenko et al.). It is resistant to brown rust (caused by Puccinia melanocephala H. and P. Sydow), orange rust (caused by Puccinia kuehnii E.J. Butler), and Sugarcane mosaic virus strain E (mosaic). CP 08-1110 is susceptible to Sugarcane yellow leaf virus. In addition, CP 08-1110 tested positive for the presence of the Bru1 gene which confers resistance to brown rust.

Description:
Parents of CP 08-1110 were the two CP sugarcane breeding lines CP 01-2459 (female) and CP 00-2188 (male). Grandparents on the female side were US 95-1023 and CP 85-1308, and on the male side were CP 90-1549 (Self). Known great grandparents on the female side were US 94-1054, CP 85-1382, R 567, and CP 74-2013 and on male side were CP 82-1592 and CP 84-1322. Of the grandparents and great grandparents, there were two successful commercial sugarcane cultivars (CP 85-1308 and CP 85-1382) in Florida, an introduced cultivar, R 567 from Reunion, and a wide cross US 94-1054. There were five commercial cultivars among its great-great grandparents: CP 52-68 that was released for commercial production in Louisiana, CP 70-1133, CP 72-1210, CP 72-2086, and CP 74-2005 in Florida. Of these ancestral cultivars, CP 70-1133 and CP 72-2086 were the most widely grown sugarcane cultivars in Florida from 1982 to 1994.
