Narrative
Mean stalk height (ground level to the base of top visible dewlap leaf) of CP 07-1313 was 283 cm. Mean internode length (fifth internode from the ground) was 15.8 cm. Stalk diameter was 28.8 mm (second internode), 28.6 mm (fifth internode), 26.9 mm (tenth internode), and 24.5 mm (last hardened internode).CP 07-1313 exhibited a concave convex shaped internode with 4.38 mm wide growth ring and and 8.96 mm wide root band on the fifth internode. Bud furrows were absent. Buds were raised above the surface of the root band and were pentagonal in shape. Average length and width of buds on the fifth internode was 8.54 mm and 7.21 mm , respectively. Mean leaf blade length and width was 145 cm and 4.27 cm, respectively. Leaf sheath pubescence was absent.CP 07-1313 was considered moderately resistant to brown rust (caused by Puccinia melanocephala H. and P. Sydow), orange rust (caused by Puccinia kuehnii E.J. Butler), smut [caused by Sporisorium scitamineum (Syd.) M. Piepenbring et al.], and leaf scald (caused by Xanthomonas albilineans Ashby, Dowson). CP 07-1313 was considered moderately susceptible to Sugarcane mosaic virus strain E (mosaic), and resistant to ratoon stunt (caused by Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli Evtsuhenko et al.) and Sugarcane yellow leaf virus. In addition, CP 07-1313 tested negative for the presence of the Bru1 gene that confers resistance to brown rust.
