Narrative
Mean stalk height (ground level to the base of top visible dewlap leaf) of CP 06-2964 was 257 cm. Mean internode length (fifth internode from the ground) was 16.4 cm. Stalk diameter was 28.4 mm (second internode), 25.9 mm (fifth internode), 25.3 mm (tenth internode), and 25.5 mm (last hardened internode).CP 06-2964 exhibited a concave convex shaped internode with 3.07 mm wide growth ring and and 8.87 mm wide root band on the fifth internode. Bud furrows were absent. Buds were raised above the surface of the root band and were ovate with emarginate basal wing region in shape. Average length and width of buds on the fifth internode was 9.11 mm and 8.00 mm , respectively. Mean leaf blade length and width was 163 cm and 5.00 cm, respectively. Leaf sheath pubescence was absent.CP 06-2964 was considered moderately resistant to brown rust (caused by Puccinia melanocephala H. and P. Sydow), orange rust (caused by Puccinia kuehnii E.J. Butler), and smut [caused by Sporisorium scitamineum (Syd.) M. Piepenbring et al.]. CP 06-2964 was considered resistant to leaf scald (caused by Xanthomonas albilineans Ashby, Dowson), Sugarcane mosaic virus strain E (mosaic), and ratoon stunt (caused by Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli Evtsuhenko et al.). CP 06-2964 was considered moderately resistant to Sugarcane yellow leaf virus. In addition, CP 06-2964 tested negative for the presence of the Bru1 gene that confers resistance to brown rust.

Parents of CP 06-2964 were CP 94-2095 and CP 97-1387. Both parents are experimental lines in the CP (Canal Point) program and were not released as commercial cultivars due to concerns with either low cane and sucrose yield or disease susceptibility.
