Narrative
Mean stalk height (ground level to the base of top visible dewlap leaf) of CP 06-2425 was 329 cm. Mean internode length (fifth internode from the ground) was 19.0 cm. Stalk diameter was 25.5 mm (second internode), 23.8 mm (fifth internode), 21.7 mm (tenth internode), and 22.2 mm (last hardened internode).CP 06-2425 exhibited a cylindrical shaped internode with 5.46 mm wide growth ring and and 9.79 mm wide root band on the fifth internode. Bud furrows were mostly absent. Buds were slightly raised above the surface of the root band and were ovate in shape. Average length and width of buds on the fifth internode was 8.51 mm and 5.77 mm , respectively. Mean leaf blade length and width was 157 cm and 3.65 cm, respectively. Leaf sheath pubescence was heavy and moderate in length.CP 06-2425 was considered moderately resistant to brown rust (caused by Puccinia melanocephala H. and P. Sydow), susceptible to orange rust (caused by Puccinia kuehnii E.J. Butler), moderately resistant to smut [caused by Sporisorium scitamineum (Syd.) M. Piepenbring et al.], and resistant to leaf scald (caused by Xanthomonas albilineans Ashby, Dowson), Sugarcane mosaic virus strain E (mosaic), and ratoon stunt (caused by Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli Evtsuhenko et al.). CP 06-2425 was considered moderately resistant to Sugarcane yellow leaf virus. In addition, CP 06-2425 tested negative for the presence of the Bru1 gene that confers resistance to brown rust.

Pedigree
Description:
Parents of CP 06-2425 were CP 01-1625 and 03 P 29. The female parent CP 01-1625 is an experimental line in the CP (Canal Point) program and has superior agronomic performance on sand but it was not released as a commercial cultivar due to concerns with disease susceptibility. The male parent, 03 P 29, means that the cross was a polycross of several cultivars and the specific male parent is not known.
