Locality: Private property approximatley 3.75 miles due west of Grinnell, T80N R17W SW 1/4 NE 1/4 W 1//2 Sec. 14 Jasper County.
Coordinates: 41.7371, -92.7992 (Map it)

Environment description: Small (approximately 15 specimens noted), localized population growing in old woods currently being grazed for cattle. Growing on clay based (heavy) soils on gentle south-facing slope (30-40 degrees) in association with Carya ovata, Phlox divaricata, Morus alba, Erigeron strigosus, Crataegus spp. (abundant), Ulmus pumila, extremely large Prunus virginiana, Rhamnus catharatica, Quercus velutina, Quercus macrocarpa, Symphoricarpos orbiculatus, Rosa multiflora, Lonicera maackia, Ribes sp., Podophyllum peltatum, and Carex spp.

Narrative
Variation in quality of fruits within population. Majority of specimens 25-35' in height. Fruits still rather persistent at time of harvest (09/30/2015). Average distance between sampled mother trees (7 count) is approximately 46 yards. The closest distance between two samples measured 23 yards. Peak flowering occurred 05/04/2015. Slight differences present within population including phenology of blooming and intensity of flower color.
