Narrative
CA 4003 is a non-commercial upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) germplasm lines that was developed as part of a specific breeding effort that focused on improving fiber properties measured by both the high volume instrument (HVI) and the advanced fiber information system (AFIS) with special emphasis being placed on fiber length distribution. CA 4003 was both longer and stronger with higher length uniformity and lower short fiber content than both commercial checks. The fiber quality profile of CA 4003 resulted in carded yarns that had better tensile properties and lower coefficient of variation (CVm) than comparable yarns produced from commercial checks. CA 4003 also produced a significantly lower percentage of noils waste during combed yarn production. This germplasm line is a valuable source that possess both raw fiber and finished product traits to address fiber market and the textile industry requirements.
