Narrative
These nine NB pairs with A1 cytoplasmic male sterile seed parent (A) and their maintainer (B) were released by the Kansas State University, Agricultural Research Center, Hays, Kansas in August 2014. The lines KS133NB to KS137NB are early in maturity and come to flowering in 60 to 65 days whereas, the lines KS138NB to KS141NB are medium in maturity and come to flowering in 65 to 70 days. In general, these NB lines are short to average in plant height and ranged from 98 - 118 cm. All nine seed parent lines are tannin free, short in peduncle length, panicles with good exsertion and good combining ability for yield and standability. The other traits associated with each NB pair is listed here under: KS133NB - semi-compact and long panicle; KS134NB - semi-compact and long panicle, high protein digestibility and starch level; KS135NB - semi-compact panicle, awned and tolerant tocharcoal rot; KS136NB - compact panicle with more seed weight; KS137NB - short plant, awned and fusarium stalk-rot tolerance; KS138NB - short plant, long and compact panicle; KS139NB- short plant. compact panicle and dry midrib; KS140NB - short plant, awned and compact panicle; KS141NB- long and semi-compact paniclewith more seed weight, awned and tolerant to fusarium stalk-rot

These nine NB pairs were developed from random mating between the selected germplasm (Pl 550610B, IS2692R, IS9454R, IS9335R) and different genetic male-sterile (GMS) ms3 populations like KP8B, B51-B (plant purple; see white; glume black), ms3 tan, and white tan B06-41701-313 with different combinations using a recurrent selection followed by pedigree and back cross breeding methods.
