Narrative
Reidentified as Prunus sp. due to clear misidentification of material bearing same field collection number received as seedlings and accessioned as NA 82647; that material is a member of subgenus Prunus. From the record of NA 82647: "Ron Miller commented in his email [RM to RJL] the following: "The common name 'Alabama cherry' seems right, for the fruit look very like domesticated sour cherries--in size and flavor. They are rather nice-looking on the plant with reds turning to blackish reds. Notice how much the seeds resemble cherry pits." [Note, this fruit size as described seems to be abnormally large compared to what is typically described for the taxon; identification may need review in the future.] See also NA 81980 for seeds sent earlier from this same collection. [Further update: This appears to be some form of plum, not a cherry (and certainly not a form of Prunus serotina); full ID will require a fruiting specimen, but it appears to be allied to P. umbellata, P. angustifolia, and P. rivularis."]
