Environment description: Mixed, mesic deciduous/coniferous forest along edge of road on thin, rocky soils. Growing in association with Picea asperata, Salix sp., Sorbus sp., Spiraea sp., Abies fargesii var. faxoniana, Betula albosinensis, and Betula utilis.

Comment: Shrub, height 1.5 meters; bark tan and light brown on young wood; leaves elliptic, margins doubly serrate - 3 centimeters wide by 8 centimeters long; fruit terminal racemes or cymes of brown capsules.
