'Clermont' has a relative maturity of 3.9, white flowers, light tawny pubescence, brown pods, dull yellow seed coat, black hilum, and indeterminate growth. 'Clermont' carries Rps1c and Rps3a alleles for resistance to Phytophthora sojae races 4 and 7.

'Clermont' originated as an F4-derived selection from a cross between the breeding lines HS1-3641 and HS1-7116, both of which have complex pedigrees. HS1-3641 is derived from the cross ((Pl 92718 x Pioneer 9271) x Vertex) x Kottman. The paternal parent of the proposed release, HS1-7116, is derived from the cross HS93-4118 x (Pl 398693 x HS93-4118). The HS1-3641 x HS1-7116 cross was made in 2003 in Columbus
