Narrative
CU-M88 is an erect plant, 40-60 cm tall, of indeterminate habit (CIAT type II) and morphologically similar to Midnight. Pods are set high on the plant, are 6-10 cm long and contain 5-7 seeds, which are similar in morphology to Midnight. Duration is 100-110 days and 100-seed weight is 22 g. CU-M88 is resistant to BYMV strains US1 and NY15. Some tolerance is possessed to Pythium ultimum and Fusarium solani f.sp phaseoli. It is susceptible to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum but may avoid serious infection because of its upright growth habit. CU-M88 carries resistance to the Y race and partial resistance to the ? race of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, but is susceptible to the ? race. Comparisons between CU-M88 and Midnight at Freeville, NY, in 1988 showed no significant differences for seed yield, biomass, harvest index, seed size or days to maturity. The cooking and canning quality of CU-M88 is nearly equivalent to that of Midnight.
