Narrative
RMPAP-C4, a random mated population involving four cultivars of Upland cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., and 30 primitive accessions has been developed. The 30 photoperiodic accessions were initially crossed to OPL61 and selections were made for day-neutrality. This population involved five cycles of random-mating following the cross of 30 day-neutral primitive accessions to the conventional cultivars Sure-Grow1 05, DP393, FM458, and ST474. The primitive accessions used in developing this population contained diversity for agronomic, fiber, morphology traits in addition to being collected at diverse locations. Random mating was facilitated by hand emaSCUlation and bulk pollen methodology. The aim of this project was to incorporate alleles into a population useful to cotton breeding programs for trait improvement and genetic diversity. The mean values for agronomic traits measured following five cycles of random mating were not significantly different from those of cultivars, except for lint percent which was lower. Small non-significant changes occurred for fiber quality traits, except for fiber uniformity which increased following random mating. Morphological trait diversity is also present in this population. We suggest that this unique introgression population offers new genetic combinations and genetic diversity that may be useful to Upland cotton breeding programs.

F4 flowering plants from crosses of 30 photoperiodic primitive accessions (TEX 28, 118, 184, 231,258, 266, 306, 310, 311,325,342,378,480,604,693,695,717,760,1015, 1055, 1076, 1130, 1203,1237, 1333, 1354, 1369, 2167, 2431, and 2434) with DP61 were crossed with four cultivars (SG10S, DP393, FM958, and ST474) and beginning with these F1 were randomly intercrossed and harvested by cultivar parent for 5 cycles. Equal numbers of C4S1 see of the 4 families were bulked for RMPAP-C4.
