Environment description: Growing on a pure-sand raised bank/natural levee along a brownwater stream.
Comment: Seed taken from the southernmost colony in Santa Rosa County, FL. Growing [in]...a rather atypical site that shows the extraordinary heat and drought tolerance of these plants. Some horticulturalists have found these plants resistant to fungal diseases prevalent in the currently available (northern & mountain) cultivars. Most Kalmia are miffy. These are not. Quite early blooming (March);
