Narrative
Clone M6 produces a vigorous vine, with profuse flowering. It is male and female fertile, and has produced viable seed from crosses to a diverse set of diploid clones. Self-pollination produces vigorous, fertile offspring, indicating the deleterious recessive alleles are no longer present. All offspring are self-compatible, so M6 is homozygous for a dominant self-incompatibility inhibitor. Unlike most wild species clones, M6 tuberizes under the long photoperiods of temperate zone production conditions. In an analysis of 8,303 single nucleotide polymorphisms, 90.0% of alleles were homozygous. Tubers of M6 are round to oblong with light purple skin and white flesh. Dry matter content is high, ranging from 27 to 31 percent. Tubers exhibit resistance to cold sweetening, producing acceptable chips after storage for six months at 6C.
