Narrative
UA 5612 is a determinate cultivar with a relative maturity of 5.6. It has purple flowers, gray pubescence, and tan pod walls. Plant height of UA 5612 ranges from 71 to 84cm. Seeds of UA 5612 have yellow cotyledons with dull yellow seed coats and imperfect black hila. Its seed size is 13.3 g per 100 seed. UA 5612 is resistant to shattering and lodging. UA 5612 has 405 9 kg-1 of seed protein and 204 g kg-1 of oil. UA 5612 is moderately resistant to southern stem canker (caused by Diaporthe phaseolorum (Cooke and Ellis) Sacco var. meridionales F.A. Fernandez), sudden death syndrome (caused by Fusarium solani (Mart.) Sacco f. sp. Glycines, and frog eye leaf spot (caused by Cercospora sojina). It is susceptible to soybean mosaic virus, root-knot nematode [Meloidogyne arenaria (Neal)], and soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines Ichinohe) races 2, 3, and 14.

Description:
UA 5612 was originated from an individual F2 plant selection from the cross R97-1650 x 98601. R97-1650 is a late MG IV experimental line and was derived from the cross between the Pioneer variety P9592 and Holladay. The parental line 98601 was a backcrossed line of R93-171 derived from the cross of A5403 x Hutcheson.
