Narrative
Troy was developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Grain Legume Genetics and Physiology Research Unit at Pullman, Washington. Troy, selection number CA9990I875W, originated as an F8 selection from progenies from the cross Blanco Lechoso/2/CA188163/CA188620 made by F.J. Muehlbauer in 1994. Troy has good resistance to Ascochyta blight caused by Ascochyta rabiei (Pass.) Labr., a common and destructive disease of chickpea in most production areas. Plants of Troy averaged 39 cm (15 inches) tall and have an upright growth habit with compound (fern) leaf type. Flowering begins 15 cm (6 inches) above the soil surface and commences about 63 days after planting depending on climatic conditions Troy has good resistance to lodging and remains upright at maturity. Seeds of Troy average 60.5 grams/100 seeds which is equivalent to 799 seeds per pound.
