Description:
A commercial variety of cotton SC 9023 was treated with 2.45% v/v ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS). Seeds were imbibed in aerated distilled water for 16 hrs. and rinsed and treated with EMS for 2 hrs. The seeds were thoroughly rinsed again and hand planted in the field immediately. In 1997 (M1) and 1998 (M2), one boll per plant was harvested in bulk to form the next generation and reduce the mutation load. In 1999, one M3 plant with tufted partially naked seed coat was identified and named 9023n4t.
