Narrative
Mermentau (MRMT) is a conventional, high yielding, very early maturing, short-stature, long-grain rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivar approved for release by Director of the Louisiana Agricultural Experimental Station in 2012 based on superior agronomic characteristics, high yield potential and good milling quality. MRMT has a semi dwarf growth habit and is considered moderately resistant to lodging. MRMT exhibited equal seedling vigor compared with Catahoula and Cheniere varieties across 20 trials from 2008 to 2011. Mean plant height for MRMT, Catahoula and Cheniere was 94 cm across 27 trials from 2010 to 2012. In those same trials, MRMT and Cheniere reached 50% heading in 82 days while heading for Catahoula was one day later. MRMT exhibited an average apparent starch amylose content of 226 g / kg and an intermediate average alkali spreading value of 4.0. Mermentau was rated susceptible to sheah blight caused by Rhizontonia solani and moderately resistant to blast caused by Magnaporthe grisea. MRMT was rated moderately susceptible to the physiolocal disorder straighhead. In 27 trials from 2010 to 2012, average grain yield of MRMT was 7.4 Mg / ha and average milling yield (ratio of whole kernals to total milled rice) was 578:688 g / kg in 19 trials from 2010 to 2012.

Comment:
some seed lots of domesticated rice may contain contaminants of a noxious weed hybrid-form that are not distinguishable by seed visualization, which is responsible for the rice-growing state's noxious-weed seed regulations indicated below
