Long?s Peak is a high yielding pinto cultivar that combines resistance to common rust, endemic strains of BCMV and BCMNV, and upright CIAT Type II architecture. However, in environments with high soil N content and excessive soil moisture Long?s Peak can lodge; Long?s Peak also combines these desirable commercial traits with excellent seed color and weight. Long?s Peak possesses the recessive bc-2^2 gene for resistance to the seed-borne bean common mosaic and bean common mosiac necrosis virus stains NL 3 and NL 8. Greenhouse tests indicate that Long?s Peak possesses two rust resistance genes, namely Ur-6 and Ur-11. Mean seed yield for Long?s Peak was 3109 and 2840 kg ha-1 in 2011 and 2012, respectively, over 11 locations in the Cooperative Dry Bean Nursery. Mean seed weight for Long?s Peak was 38.3 and 37.4 g 100 seed-1 in 2011 and 2012, respectively. In the Western Regional Bean trial, mean seed yield for Long?s Peak over four locations was 3217 and 4000 kg ha-1 in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Mean seed weight was 38.7 and 38.8 g 100 seed-1. In Colorado, mean seed yield for Long?s Peak was 3330 and 3121 kg ha-1 in 2009 and 2010 over 3 locations, respectively, and mean seed weight was 37.4 and 36.1 g 100 seed-1.
