Narrative
W-333 is a sweetpotato breeding line evaluated in the field several years at the U. S. Vegetable Laboratory in Charleston, SC for yield, quality, and pest resistance. Bedded roots sprout readily. W-333 plants are vigorous and produce a leaf canopy that covers the ground. Roots of W-333 have a dark copper skin and a dark orange flesh. This genotype shows good resistance to soil insect pests and nematodes. The material placed in storage at the PGRCU was virus tested tissue culture plantlets sent by Zvezdana Pesic VanEsbroeck, Director of the Micropopagation and Repository Unit, Department of Plant Pathology, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC.

W-333 is a clonally propagated sweetpotato genotype that originated from a single seed from a polycross breeding nursery in 1992 in which 32 parents were randomly distributed in four field replications at the USDA ARS, U. S. Vegetable Laboratory, Charleston, SC. Pollination was by natural bee populations. Its original designation was 93-191, and it was later renamed W-333. The maternal parent of W-333 is W-269. The paternal parent of W-333 is one of the other 31 genotypes in the polycross nursery
