Locality: Palisades (a locally used term to describe the sheer cliffs along the Kentucky River); along the west side of Kentucky Route 27 just north of Hall, Kentucky.

Environment description: Growing on the thin soils of the sheer limestone cliffs just below the top of the cliffs.
Comment: Single-stemmed and multi-stemmed, deciduous trees with ascending branches; 3.5 to 7 m tall; ~5 to 12 cm DBH; bark smooth and silver-gray; fruit papery flattened pods to 8 cm long and borne terminally on branches in clusters up to 10. Note: I (RJL) was told to always look for yellowwood on the upper portion of north-facing slopes., Seed collected from several trees.
