Environment description: Moderately dense to dense taiga forest of Picea, Betula, and Salix with numerous clearings. Empetrum nigrum and Vaccinium uliginosum were abundant on the site and fruits were ripe. Vaccinium vitis-idaea was also present, with the fruit was approximately one month from ripening.
Comment: Seed collected from the wild near Fairbanks, Alaska, USA Empetrum nigrum was abundant across the site and productive under the canopy upslope of the highway. Fruit size appeared well above average for the Fairbanks region. This was the best E. nigrum site visited during the week-long collection trip.
