Narrative
MT2468 Ren2 was evaluated for reniform nematode, Rotylenchulus reniformis, resistance in greenhouse tests. It exhibited a moderate level of resistance compared to a susceptible cultivar. In agronomic evaluations it had lower lint percentage, smaller bolls, and lower yield compared to a cultivar check Deltapine 393. MT2468 Ren2 had shorter fibers but higher fiber strength compared to Deltapine 393. This line initiates fruit about two later than standard cultivars; therefore, it?s later in reaching maturity. Over-all plant size is similar to standard cultivars.

Description:
MT2468 Ren2 was developed from a cross between Deltapine 61 (PI 607174) and the photoperiodic primitive accession T-2468 (PI 607773). Day-neutral plants were selected in the F2. F3 progeny were screened for reniform nematode resistance and a single plant with low nematode reproduction was selected. F4 progeny from the selected F3 plant was re-evaluated for resistance and a single plant was selected. Seeds (F5) from the selected plant were advanced via bulk-self to the F6 and re-selected for nematode resistance. A single plant was selected and advanced to the F10 via bulk-self increase. The F10 bulk population was designated MT2468 Ren2.
