Narrative
Rex has the semi-dwarf plant type and possesses typical long grain end-use cereal chemistry qualities. In 35 state and regional field trials over a seven year testing period, Rex has averaged 86 days to heading, an indication of its early maturity, and 103 em in mature plant height. Rex's strong tolerance to plant lodging (less than 1 %) was a contributing characteristic to its high average paddy rice yields (10.83 t ha") and their consistency throughout the testing period. In addition, growers recognize the value of harvest efficiency that is associated with a standing crop. While Rex is susceptible to rice blast and sheath blight diseases, its level of field tolerance has permitted its field performance potential to be realized.
