Narrative
Of 40 seeds received, 36 germinated and 15 were retained. Molecular analysis (iSSR) in the laboratory of Prof Mikeal Roose revealed that all of the seedlings were unique and therefore zygotic. They were planted in the field for maintenance at the Coachella Valley Agricultural Research Station in Thermal, California. On 01/08/2010, a seedling selection was made and propagated for maintenance under protection (RRUT 429). The remainder of the seedlings will be maintained for the time being. The trees and fruit of RSD 1991011 were fairlyl uniform. RRUT 429 was selected from a tylical, vigorous tree. The fruit were large, pyriform, and had thick rinds. Note: It is not known whether or not this is the same as 'Iran lemon' (PI 539295/CRC 3162), which was rec'd from USDA Indio Date Station; source of tree at Indio could have been USDA Orlando but this can not be determined from documentation.
